Flexible COVID Classroom Music Options
With the uncertainty of how schools look in various regions, these can be potentially tricky times for music educators to come up with repertoire that is fun and educational for a non standard music classroom. Facing a reduced classroom of 15 musicians with odd instrumentation will make the playing of traditional concert band or orchestra music difficult on a day to day basis. Many teachers look at smaller ensembles or Flex Band to fill this void. This allows for students to break into brass, woodwind, string, percussion or flexible ensembles. For nearly 25 years Eighth Note Publications has been specializing in the writing of quality music for small ensembles ranging in difficulty from beginning right through to professionals covering diverse styles and genres from Renaissance transcriptions to contemporary. With a growing catalog of over 2000 chamber music pieces, there is sure to be titles that will work for every situation.
Our chamber ensemble music is available in several formats:
- Standard instrumentations such as brass quintet, sax quartet and woodwind quintet.
- Like-instrument ensembles such as 3 flutes, 6 clarinets, 4 trombones, etc. Many of these pieces are sold as like-instrument ensembles (3 flutes, 2 trombones, etc) but they can all be combined with other like-instrument groups to form mixed ensembles - purchase the flute, clarinet and trombone books and you can create a mix and match trio.
- Flexible Band and Orchestra alternatives Our 100+ Interchangeable Woodwind Series is very flexible and adaptable for many combinations of woodwind instruments. Our Flexible Band Series is the most useful for mixing a variety of woodwind, brass, string and percussion players. These pieces are playable by as few as 5 woodwind, brass or string players with or without percussion. This creates the opportunity for a mixed quintet to perform these titles but also allows for performance for 10-15 players up to full a band/orchestra with parts doubling.
