This Sonata by Pietro Baldassare was originally written for cornetto (trumpet) strings and continuo. The colourful and contrapuntal first movement moves into an almost vocal slow movement before ending with a bright dance-like final section. This arrangement has been transposed down a step from the key of F into the key of Eb. The non-solo trumpet player should play a flugel horn to create a fourth "mellow" voice.
